Happy Busy People!

"The happiest people are those who are too busy to notice whether they are or not."
-William Feather.

An idle mind is the devil's workshop! I have heard this comment for years and believe it to be true. No I am not talking about resting. Everyone needs rest sometime. When you just sit around however, your mind becomes a playground for mischief. I have often heard quoted, "If you want to get a job done, ask a busy person." These people often have a better outlook on life, and see life as a journey and not a destination. Hence, their whole life is consumed with keeping themselves occupied and making forward progress. We all derive satisfaction when a goal is accomplished and done well. This makes us happy. Therefore, most happy people are busy people.

ARE YOU HAPPY?

Many negative minded people I know are ones who are not busy. I have always thought their idle mind was a playground for the devil. If they would get busy, even if it is listening to the news, visiting a neighbor, or volunteering at a school, I believe they would become less negative and therefore happier.

Very true. It's important to have purpose. Working at something worth doing just seems to make you feel better about yourself. I know that once I got my first "real" job I gained so much self-confidence. Great post.

(I just added you to my links section BTW)

It just takes too much out of person to be negative so I choose to be HAPPY. Happiness develops character, and definitely makes the people around us happy too.

Jana- very true! Idleness breeds negativity. They seem angry when others achieve success.

Weston--THe more successful you can become in life, the more self-confidence you will exude.

Brian, great post. BTW isn't it funny when the one who won't work becomes jealous of what the one who will has.

Hi Brian, Yes, I am happy. I think Jana touched on something important in her comment. Being "busy" is not the same as being gainfully employed nor is it the same as being "successful" in the world's eyes, as you imply in your response to Wes. Actually, I don't think that's exactly what you meant. Perhaps you should elaborate.

Self-confidence is the result of knowing one's own self-worth -- that is, agreeing with God -- and of acting accordingly. I think happiness is closely related to one's relationship to God not to the number of things a person is "doing." As a friend of mine once observed, "we are human beings not human doings." Just doing things will not make us happy. A good sense of self will allow a person to do nothing (for a period of time) quite happily.

Busy people are definitely HAPPY. I can honestly say that you and Jana are two of the happiest people I know and that is why I enjoy hanging out with both of you! I don't have much patience for moody, critical people who are constantly down in the dumps. I'd much rather be around energetic people who are living a busy, fun-filled life and enjoying every minute of it!

Helen - I was simply responding to Weston's post. Notice I did not say the happier that you will become because I know alot of angry rich folks! In my post I said that satisfaction is derived when a goal is accomplished and done well. You are exactly correct in your analysis that our happiness is directly tied to our realtionship with God. Great response Helen!

Debbie--Thank you! Jana and I try our best to not let things pull us down. We try and keep our relationship with God and our friends at a level where we can live happy.

Mark--the crazy thing is that most who are jealous lack a relationship with God.

Thanks, Brian. You and Jana make me think. Thinking is good!

Yeah... on the flip-side, there are the "busy" workaholic types who are not happy, but just keep themselves "busy" to distract themselves from their pain. "Busy" as you use it in this post is not the same as being over-worked or stressed out.

Amen Pastor! I know that when I am a little stressed or down I will start to work on my next project for the bulletin boards for the church or get something together for a post on my blog, read my Bible, pray or play games with my grandson. In no time at all I do feel much better.

Just something about doing all of the above that lifts my spirit. Why just sit around and do nothing and get deeper in the mully grubs? Makes no sense.
