The most important thing I have learned over the years is the difference between taking one's work seriously and taking one's self seriously. The first is imperative, and the second disastrous.
- Margot Fonteyn
While I think that everyone should have a God measured amount of self-esteem, self-pride, and self-worth we must be careful not to take ourselves too seriously and think more of ourselves than we ought to think. The Apostle Paul writing to the Romans said it best, "For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think [of himself] more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith." (Romans 12:3) The Apostle James writes in chapter 1 verse 14 of his book, "But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed."
While you may disagree that this quote and these verses of scripture do not intertwine, I respectfully ask you to reconsider them again. Most people who take themselves too serious think more highly of themselves than they ought.
Work hard so that when your name goes on what you completed people can see that you have done a good job, but don't brag too much about your work. Let others do that for you!

Great post. Now keep it up. :)
Welcome back Brian. Sure have missed your inspiring words. How true your post. Everyday we hear about those who have taken themselves too seriously. Then watch them end up in a web of self-destruction.
Jana- Thank you! I'll try!
Sis Hopper-Thank you and good to be back. Too many people self-destruct then blame it on everyone or everything else.
Good afternoon, Brian,
I really like this post. It's refreshing to be around talented people who are able to refrain from speaking of their own accomplishments.
Bless you and your work in Delano.

Everything fits together, Brian. Sometimes we just don't see how.
Helen-you are so right! All things fit together. I just pray that God gives us the revelation on how to serve Him better and not self-destruct.

Great quote and post.
J' espère seulement que mon travail pour le Seigneur parlera et non pas moi - ce n'est que par sa Grâce que je suis ici.
BTW I missed a little french!
Catherine-il est seulement par sa grace que nous sommes ici.
